Socio- Economic Profile Of Dairy Farmers In Hisar District Of Haryana

Among the different forms of livestock farming, dairying is considered as a ?treasure? of the Indian rural economy. For the design and implementation of support programmes to promote dairy farming for rural development and for adoption of new technologies in dairy, profile of the dairy farmers is an important factor in developing countries like India. By considering this aspect the study was undertaken in Hisar district of Haryana. Among the 60 dairy farmers 73.3 per cent of respondents were middle aged with mean age of about 43 years. The respondents had fairly good formal education with mean value of 4.23 which indicates that majority (96.6%) of dairy farmers were literate. Family structure of dairy farmers was 65.0 per cent of the respondents belonged to joint families and 35.0 per cent to nuclear families. The family land holding ranged from 1 to 6 acres with a mean 2.60 acres. 43.3 per cent of the respondents preferred to have a herd size of 3-5 dairy animals. The respondents in general had poor social participation with mean value as low as 0.16. Further, majority of the respondents had low level of extension contact with mean value of 2.23. Mass media exposure of dairy farmers was also low with mean value of 2.65 which indicates majority (73.3%) of dairy farmers had low level of mass media exposure. However, economic motivation of dairy farmer was fairly high with mean value of 22.56. The dairy farmers in general had medium risk orientation with mean value 18.28.

Panda are two types: (a) Giant panda and (b) red panda. Giant pandas are black and white bears. The red panda is dwarfed by the black-and-white giant that shares its name. The giant panda is a vulnerable species, threatened by continued habitat loss and habitat fragmentation and by a very low birthrate, both in the wild and in captivity. Habitat loss and fragmentation have reduced its numbers, shrunk its distribution and separated the population into isolated subpopulations. The main objectives of this paper are: (a) to study the situation of panda in Himalayan region and (b) to identify the reasons for reducing numbers of panda.
Effect Of Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) Powder In Diet On Growth Performance Of Broiler Chicks

The experiment was conducted at the Livestock Production and management unit, M.G.C.G.V. Chitrakoot - Satna M.P., during 2016 to April, 2016. Day old 45 broiler chicks (DOC) of same hatch were produced and reared in Deep litter system. The chicks were weighed, leg banded and distributed randomly into 5 groups of 9 chicks each as treatment. Chicks of each treatment were further divided into 3 sub groups of 3 chicks in each in Randomized Block Design (RBD). Chicks of each sub group were accommodated comfortably in deep litter providing 1 sq. ft./ chick. Chicks were fed standard starter ration upto 3 weeks age (1 to 21 days) and then broiler finisher ration upto 3-4 weeks (22-28 days).An experiment was conducted with DOC to 45 broilers chicks divided into fine groups T0, T1, T2, T3 and T4 which were supplemented with Turmeric powder @ 1.0g, 2.0Sg, 3.0g and 4.0g/kg of broiler ration, respectively.Weekly observations were recorded for live body weight, weekly gain in weight, weekly feed consumption and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of birds for four Weeks. All the treatment groups T1 (724.17), T2 (745.00), T0 (695.92), T4 (763.17) recorded significantly higher means for live body weight than of control T3 (769.25)FCR of chicks at first, second, third, and fourth week of age was recorded 1.61, 1.83, 1.93, and 1.90, respectively. Role Of Poultry Bird Droppings On Pond Productivity Through Poultry + Fish Integrated Farming System

The experiment was conducted at Main Agricultural Research Station (MARS), Raichur of Karnataka to study the impact of poultry bird droppings on physicochemical, parameters of pond ecosystem and overall production of fish. The pond was stocked with common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and integrated with broiler poultry birds (Giriraj breed) which fertilizes the pond with their excreta during rearing. No supplementary feed was given to the fish while the birds were fed with leftovers of maize, cowpea and bengal gram which are easily available commodities in rural areas. The mean dry matter loading rate of birds excreta was 64 and 65 kg/year during first and second year into the pond resulting considerable influence on physico-chemical parameters viz., dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity changed and plankton volume also improved considerably. These parameters in totality affect the overall fish production ranging from 114.81 to 156.56 kg during 2012-13 and 2013-14, respectively. The average bird meat produced was 2.46 to 2.56 kg/bird. The results conclude that, integration of fish with poultry birds is more sustainable and profitable than farming fish farming alone.
Seasonal Variation Of Phytoplankton Diversity, Density And Palmer?S Pollution Index Of Freshwater Lake, Rural Area Of Ahmedabad

The present study was carried out on Manipur lake of Manipur village. The plankton were collected, counted and were identified by using the method suggested by APHA (1985); Prescott (1970) and Edmondson (1959). The planktons were counted by using Sedgwick Rafter counting cell. Different class such as cyanophyceae, chlorophyceae, bacillariophyceae and euglenophyceae. Among all these classes the listed phytoplankton such as Anabaena sp., Merismopedia sp., Ankistrodesmus sp., Actinastrum sp., Closteriopsis sp., Closteriumsp., Coelastrumsp., Crucigenia sp., Gonium sp., Pediastrumsp., Scenedesmus sp., Tetraedron sp., Amphiplrura sp., Cyclotella sp., Cymbella sp., Navicula sp., Nitzschia sp., Synedra sp., Euglena sp. and Phacus sp. were recorded in Manipur lake. The study was carried out monthly but was tabulated seasonally by using statistical method. From the listed data the quality of water was concluded. Palmer stated that composite rating of algae, tolerating organic pollution and developed an index to establish the status of the aquatic body. In this method to determine the level of organic pollution by studying the algae present in a sample of water.
Effect Of Formaldehyde Treated Concentrate, Urea And Soybean Meal On Compound Growth Rate Of Milk Yield And Correlation Studies In Lactating Cows

Present investigation entitled ?effect of formaldehyde treated concentrate, urea and soybean meal on compound growth rate of milk yield and correlation studies in lactating cows? was undertaken at Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. Feeding of 1.5 per cent formaldehyde treated 70:30 sugras : SBM concentrate mixture with 2 per cent added urea diet to lactating cows (T3) was evaluated in relation to sugras untreated ration (T1). It was observed that intakes in cows were non-significantly influenced by the parameters except water intake as out of the five animals only 2 animals showed significant impact due to DMI and TDNI and none of the animals due to DCPI. The values were 0.30, 0.74, 0.30 and 0.28 per cent per week for DMI, DCPI, TDNI and TWI, respectively. This reflected in an increase of 1.14 per cent in milk yield/ week in cows. It was noticed that DCPI had a greater influence on milk yield of cows in all the groups except T5 group as the correlation values were positive and significant, being r = 0.770, 0.764 and 0.921 of high magnitude in T1, T2 and T3 groups, respectively and 0.588 of medium order in T4 group while it was positive but non-significant (r= 0.431) in T5 group. The correlation values observed for maximum and minimum ambient temperature were positive non-significant, being r = 0.186 and 0.137, 0.243 and 0.074, 0.324 and 0.081, 0.230 and 0.067 and 0.250 and 0.094 in T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 treatments, respectively. In contrast correlation coefficient values between RHI and daily milk yield were negative non-significant in T1, T2 and T4 treatments, being r = -0.481, -0.546 and -0.424, respectively while the association was negative significant in T3 (r = - 0.642) and in T5 ( r = - 0.778).
Response Of Post Larvae Ofpenaeus Monodon (Fabricius, 1798) To Varying Temperatures

Temperature is a key environmental variable mainly influencing the survival and biological responses of the organisms. In order to understand the influence of temperature on survival and growth of post- larvae (PL 50) of tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, static bioassays as per standard methodology were undertaken. The 96 h LT50 value was found to be 32.2 0C. Rates of oxygen consumption were affected by temperature with direct relationship. The oxygen consumption rate of post-larva was the lowest (0.31 mg lit-1) at 280C, while the highest was at 310C (0.84 mg lit-1). One-way ANOVA test showed a significant temperature impact on average oxygen consumption rate of the post-larvae. The highest and lowest length and weight gains were observed at 29.5 and 310C, respectively with a medium growth at 280C. From the above, it may be concluded that the lethal/critical (maxima) temperature in shrimp thus, depend on acclimatizing temperatures, species, developmental stage and also other environmental variables.
Factors Affecting Constraints Perception Of Women Practising Mixed Dairy Farming

The success story of Indian milk production has been written primarily by millions of rural producers and perhaps the major share of credit goes to women dairy farmers. Women are major contributors in the agricultural economy, but face various constraints that limit them from achieving optimal livestock production and agricultural development. The study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state to document the constraints affecting the growth of mixed dairy farming systems. The respondents for the study comprised of 60 women engaged in mixed dairy farming. The constraints perceived by the respondents were divided into six main areas viz., general, feeding, economic, management, health care and breeding. Management and feeding constraints were perceived as most serious. Constraints like, ?high cost of animal feeds and fodders? ?fragmentation of land holdings?, ?high losses due to animal diseases? were rated as most serious by the respondents. On the other hand they were least bothered about constraints like ?non- availability of veterinary hospital in the village?, ?vaccination facilities are not timely available?, ? far away location of veterinary hospital is a problem?, non- availability of veterinary surgeons? and ?lack of storage facility for dairy products?. Age, social participation, extension contact and mass media exposure were significantly and positively associated with constraint perception. Education, land holding, and risk orientation were negatively but insignificantly related to the constraint perception. Further studies in areas of market incentives and opportunities, diseases and animals, extension services and quality delivery, gender role and information seeking behaviour are advised.
Poultry Farming: Suitable Intervention For Livelihood Support And Nutritional Security Of Marginal/Small Farmers Ofn-E Karnataka

Backyard poultry farming is a social phenomenon rather than an economic proposition. It is popular among the communities who have no inhibition against keeping birds, eating eggs produced and the meat. Keeping the importance of backyard poultry system in rural areas the present study was undertaken to compare free range/ backyard poultry rearing practices with battery cage rearing in Main Agricultural Research Station (MARS), Raichur of N-E Karnataka during 2012-13 and 2013-14 to examine productivity, economic structure, employment generation, nutritional value addition and resource recycling.
The Prevalence Of Ixodid Ticks On Buffaloes From Eastern Region Of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

The present study was conducted to investigate the occurrence of ticks on buffalo. The survey was carried out between February 2016 to May 2016 at eastern region of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The following genera of ticks belonging to the family ixodidae were recovered from buffaloes, Hylomma and Rhipicephalus (formerly Boophilus). A total of 300 buffaloes were examined out of which 160 were found infested with ticks. The overall prevalence of tick infestation in buffaloes was observed 53.33 per cent. Gender-wise prevalence of ticks showed that infestation was more prevalent in females (56.5%) as compared to male hosts (42.8%). Age-wise prevalence of ticks was also studied and it was observed that the highest prevalence of ticks was in adult (>3yrs) (23.7%) and lowest prevalence (45.7%) was recorded in young buffaloes (1-3yrs).
